Which is a better fire pit, wood burning or gas?
We don't subscribe to the feeling that one type is better than the other, but feel it is up to individual taste and how and where they will use their fire pit.
WOOD: The traditional favorite that give you the crackle of a fire and allows you to participate in that favorite pastime - poking the fire. A wood burning fire pit needs extra room to handle the occasional spark and should not be used too close to a building, fence or other flamable substances. The best location is one with plenty of space both around the fire pit and above it. The outdoor wood burning fire pit is for those that want to tend a fire, smell the smoke and listen to the crackle.
GAS: Gas log, or glass flame, fire pits give the warmth of a wood burning fire pit but they also offer great convenience. Gas pit are environmentally friendly and can often be used in areas where wood burning bans are in place. You can often use a gas fire pit where you have less room, but you always must consider how close you are to any combustable surroundings. A gas fire pit offers the convenience of instant on or off and there is no need to store any firewood. Gas operation has also brought about the table height of about 29", and even higher to a bar height of about 42", fire pits as well as the popular glass flame bowls. The gas fire pit is predominately for the person who wants the convenience of instant on/off, does not want to keep firewood around, has a smaller space or wants the latest glass flame look.
GEL FLAME: We have added gel flame fuel to this conversation because this is becoming a popular third alternative. With gel flame you get the convenience of a gas fire that can even be used indoors. This format is clean, convenient and simple to store and use.
